VIRDI’s fingerprint algorithm certificated by FBI
VIRDI announced that its fingerprint image compression algorithm received WSQ (Wavelet Scalar Quantization) certification from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after a complete analysis of its WSQ implementation by the NIST (National Institute Standards and Technology).
WSQ algorithm is a fingerprint image compression algorithm, which compresses fingerprint images while minimizing the loss of fingerprint image data obtained from fingerprint scanners. Therefore, obtaining WSQ certification assures fingerprint data preservation which would in turn indicate that the compressed images too are highly accurate and effective.
VIRDI obtained FBI WSQ certification for four platforms including Window 7 32bit and 64bit, and Window Server 2008 32bit and 64bit. VIRDI commented that they will expand WSQ certification continuously to support various user environments.
